Tips for Releasing Trapped Emotions from Our Bodies

Throughout our life, many of us can carry stress and other emotions with us but push them away. We can repress our emotions for a number of reasons. Some of us may have grown up in families, cultures, or societies where we were taught that to show our emotions is a sign of weakness. Others may have experienced trauma. Repressing our emotions can do more harm to ourselves than good. Emotional repression can lead to mental health challenges, affect our relationships with others and even cause physical symptoms. We carry our emotions throughout our bodies, and over time they can lead to muscle aches, pains, digestive problems, nausea, changes in appetite, sleeping problems, and fatigue. Here are a few tips that can help you to release trapped emotions in your body:

· Practice mindful breathing

· Practice non-judgement and acceptance towards your emotions

· Lean into what you are feeling if have time to during the week

· Self-expression through music, art, writing, etc.

· Intentional movement such as stretching, yoga, shaking, dancing, or meditative walks

· Massage or bodywork

While all of these tips can be helpful, it is always recommended that you consult with a mental health professional.
