Self-Soothing Tips for a Difficult Day

Life can be filled with ups and downs. On the days that are emotionally heavy, we can experience a low mood. Our energy levels might feel lower, we may feel like we are moving slower, and it can feel like our bodies feel heavier with fatigue. On days like that, it is especially important for us to self-soothe. I always share with my clients that on difficult days, it is important to allow yourself to just "melt" and be especially gentle with yourself. Here are some of my favorite self-soothing tips to help you move through heavy emotions on a difficult day:

  • Take a warm bath or shower

  • Journal your thoughts & feelings

  • Put a cool washcloth over your face with your favorite essential oil over your face

  • Practice a mindfulness technique

  • Dress in comfortable clothing

  • Connect with a loved one

  • Allow yourself to get plenty of rest

We are all allowed to have a bad day every once in a while. Bad days are an unfortunate part of life. But just because you may experience a bad day or a difficult moment, that does not negate all of the progress you have made in your journey of healing. Allow yourself extra-compassion on days like that, because you deserve it.
