About Me
I have always had a passion for helping others in any capacity that I can. I firmly believe that human beings have everything that they need already inside of them to navigate through the challenges that life may bring. When we are in the midst of our own storms, it can sometimes be hard to see the gifts that we already possess to carry on. I am not here to be the expert of your life. You are. My job is to simply guide you through your pain and help you tap into your inner strengths to overcome it.
I am a bi-racial woman of color, being half African-American and Asian. I have had personal experiences with racism being mixed identity which had lead to depression, anxiety, and a very low self-esteem when I was a teenager. I was very blessed to have a loving family to continue supporting me during that time...it wasn't enough.
When I entered young adulthood, my experiences of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem had followed me in every aspect of my life. The question, "Am I good enough?" hung over my head every single day. It made me hate the person that I saw in the mirror. I found myself constantly comparing my life to others.
Later on, I sought psychotherapy services for myself. Therapy helped me to discover my own inner strength, passion, skills, and abilities that were always there, but had been buried by trauma. This discovery was so eye-opening for me that it made me find my true identity, realizing that I am more than the color of my skin. For the first time in a long time, I felt valued and empowered. That was the moment that I knew I wanted to be a psychotherapist.
I have found firsthand that pain can be a catalyst for change and growth. I entered the field of psychotherapy with the desire to understand and use my own painful experiences in helping guide others who are going through their own challenges in life.
Prior to obtaining my Master of Arts Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Alliant International University at Irvine, I attended California State University at Fullerton where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications. I have extensive training in working with youth, young adults, women, and families experiencing mental health challenges in outpatient and clinical settings. I also provide coaching and therapy services for working professionals and entrepreneurs.
I am here to help you heal from your pain, overcome it, and find yourself in a safe environment through therapy where I will partner with you to find your true self who is more than good enough, is valued, lovable, capable, and accepted. You do not have to go through this alone.
Love & Light,
Meagan
